FIVE strikers for Wenger to ponder over this summer

|

As we all know, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he will be rather busy but ‘sensible’ in the transfer market this summer. Personally, I don’t think Arsenal can afford to be sensible, especially if we want to win any silverware next season.

With Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela looking certain to depart the Emirates this summer, the North London club will only be left with the superb Robin van Persie and the less superb Marouane Chamakh to fire Arsenal to the title next season! This, quite frankly, is just not going to happen.

So, here are 5 strikers that I feel Arsene Wenger should attempt to sign, and evidently, bolster the strike force for next season’s campaign:

1. Karim Benzema

It is strongly rumoured that Arsenal will try their hardest to sign the out-of-favour Frenchman from Real Madrid this summer, after being unable to obtain regular first-team action. After moving to Real Madrid from Lyon back in 2009, the 23-year-old striker hasn’t really made much of an impact in the Spanish capital. The France international was in quite deadly form at the start of this season, but found himself on the bench most of the time, despite such a good run.

I think that Benzema would be an excellent addition to the squad. He scores goals, shoots from outside the box (which Arsenal severely lack in all honesty) and can head a ball as well. And with him being french, it could persuade his pal Samir Nasri to put pen to paper and sign a new deal at the Emirates.

However, a £25 million price-tag could put Arsene Wenger off, as he is not known to splash the cash, especially after what happened with Jose Antonio Reyes. But I truly believe that Wenger needs to brush the dust off his cheque book and spend some big money on a big player. It seems Wenger might do, after recently hinting he could make a move for Benzema this summer. However, this remains to be seen following recent statements from the player stating that he will be at Real next season. Still, this could change in an instance…fingers crossed.

am i missing something here? you said five strikers and name only one?
so let me guess your next four would be falcao, gervino, valburia, anelka.
and also has not benzema already said he not leaving madrid

nice one. Well if we can change a player i also would love to see us having a few set of formation to counter diferent type of team. Our tactic have been easy to read, there is no need to be a guru, it can be easily spot on. Just imagine if kasparov making the same tactical move again and again and again against his greatest opoonent (let say super computer). The super computer would make a super duper laugh all day long..

it says click here to see the rest under the video… and the strikers are bojan, tevez, bent and shane long. all hihgly unrealistic except bojan and quite a poor list, considering we need a big money, proven striker not a little sheep like shane long, who would take time to adjust 2 the prem… awful

Awful article! Shane long!! Darren bent the spurs reject! REALLY!!!!

    • chris says:

shame the spurs reject scored against us twice at the weekend……hes a quality striker, he has proven it this season, the right supply and he’ll score goals
I couldnt give a toss who they’ve played for in the past, as long as they score goals, every arsenal fan will be happy and the trophies will start to come our way

  • AlexK says:

this is absolute BS, Arsenal wouldnt buy Bent or Tevez. Who is Shane Long? Benzema just said he aint leaving Real Madrid. Bojan is a maybe, as is Gervinho, Gamiero. Im not sure who else Arsenal might look for, but certainly none of the other players you listed.

  • Monz says:

Well Chris! Considering he signed for Villa only in January, and he’s a spurs reject (also only scored twice because the whole team had a nightmare) really doesn’t make him a viable candidate does it?
Additionally he wil obviously cost more than 20mil?

    • chris says:

I just feel that he’s a decent striker, he scores goals against all kinds of team, including the big teams. he can finish + he’s better then what we’ve got already other then RVP obvs….Bendtner and Chamakh dont come close in my opinion
But its only an opinion as is yours =)

Gameiro or falcao or Gyan will b a best signing. Each can play perfectly ahead of Rvp.

i think prof wenger shud stop applying wht he read in skull on us. and spend some of the money we,v got on players like falcao, gameiro and gervinho since harzard n benzema has rejected us.

Out of the five I would prefer Arsenal to get Benzema or Bojan. I have followed Benzema from his early Lyon days and he has all the attributes it takes to be a brilliant striker. He is powerful, strong, has a great scoring record and is also able to set up goals.

I think Bojan is brilliant as well. Again he is able to score many goalsand is a great talent. Ok, he has not played much this season but there is no denying that he has real talent and good be brilliant for us. He is also able to play across the top three strikers. Either Benzema or Bojan would form a lethal strike partner with Van Persie.

I do like Tevez but I don’t see him coming as Man City next year will probably be one of our title rivals, and I don’t see City selling to title rivals. I think Bent is good but I don’t think he will suit the way Arsenal play.

For me personally I think Shane Long would be a bad buy. The fact is he has had a good season in the championship, but the premiership is a much harder league, we have seen in the past where stikers do well in the championship and rubbish in the premiership. Also there is added pressure to play in a top 4 team, he’d have to be a instant hit or the fans will turn on him, take the example of Chamakh. In general he would be a massive gamble and I think he would fail for Arsenal.

Anyway lets just hope Wenger spends money on a top quality striker, and other top quality players, so we can become a force again.

  • Madahrexus says:

Wenger has to know that it has been a very painful season to all arsenal fans and we need players who are more experienced to boost the squad and that is,if we want to lift the league and cups the coming season.so it is time to spend money on good big players.
