Arsenal put on red alert as Given seeks summer exit

|

Arsenal have been placed on red alert after Shay Given admitted that he is seeking a Manchester City exit this summer.

Shay Given believes the chances of him playing at Eastland’s next season are slim to none, after a frustrating lack of first-team opportunities this season.

Joe Hart has been Roberto Mancini’s first-choice goalkeeper this season, while Shay Given has had the unfamiliar task of warming the bench.

The 35-year-old said that given his age, he cannot afford to play second-choice any longer, and with interest from QPR, Tottenham and Arsenal mounting, he may choose to leave Manchester this summer. The Irishman told the Daily Telegraph:

‘I’d like to be playing and I don’t know what will happen in the summer. I don’t know if being part of the Champions League will persuade me to stay – there are a lot of questions I don’t really have the answer to. I know there are a lot worse clubs you could be at than Manchester City, but I don’t feel match-sharp when I go to Ireland because I haven’t played. It’s frustrating, but the manager made his decision at the start of the season and that’s his decision.’

If the Republic of Ireland International does choose to leave cash-rich City, many Arsenal fans, including myself, will be rooting for him to join the Gunners this summer.

He is a top class goalkeeper with years of experience who is entering the prime of his career, and could be the man that Arsenal fans have been screaming for ever since Jens Lehmann left the club in 2008.

I think Wenger should get him. The fact is Szczesny is good but he can become brilliant under the right guidance. Shay Given is 35 and if comes will probably be our number one goalkeeper, in five years time he’ll be 40 and coming to the end of his career, by then Szczensy will be 25-26 and will be in prime age for a goalkeeper, also he would have learn’t a lot from Shay Given and would turn out to be an even better keeper then he is now.

He aint on the Arsenal Radar, hasn’t been for 2 years. This is the worst and most desperate rumour so far this Pre-Summer.

I think Given and Parker will be good signings and would be a good sign of intent of fixing this very poor team we have

  • Ronald says:

I think wenger should sign Given and Parker in the mildfield and Hulk at the front, to make our season great.

    • wako jako says:

HULK.. he’s green but we have someone greener than HULK, we can put gunnersarus in the midfield… as a CDM

  • Aussie Jack says:

Pardon my ignorance but who`s “hulk”? Agree with signing Given and Parker (both come at the right price) and with the change we get from Arshavin, Denilson, Almunia and co. we should have enough left for beers all round.

if wenger do agree with me, to sign parker Samba and shayne given i think that this listed squad will strength the Arsenal players. More to that wenger should sell out like Almunia, Eboue, Rosicky, Bendner so that he should buy more player with listed one on board now. We trusted on you Wenger, thanks.

  • Macca says:

    He’s joined The Villa.
