Arsenal ponder £20M summer bid for Benzema to replace Bendtner

|

Arsenal are reportedly considering a £20 million summer bid for Karim Benzema to replace Nicklas Bendtner, according to Metro.

The out-of-favour Real Madrid striker was overlooked by manager Jose Mourinho in the Copa del Rey final in April, as well as both Champions League matches against arch-rivals Barcelona, and reports in Madrid are now claiming that the Frenchman is willing to part ways with the Spanish giants.

Mourinho will be looking to generate summer funds through player sales, and it is thought that Benzema is his best option in doing so, as the Frenchman is clearly unsettled and appears to be behind loanee forward Emmanuel Adebayor and the returning Gonzalo Higuain in the striking pecking order at the club.

Arsene Wenger is known to be a long-term and huge admirer of the 23-year-old hitman, and while he was not prepared to splash £35 million for the striker which took him to Real from Lyon two years ago, the Arsenal boss may be tempted to test the waters and could potentially acquire the France international’s services at a reduced price during the summer.

Whilst Robin van Persie has excelled this season, Arsenal’s other strikers have done mediocre jobs, which has left a number of fans (including myself) frustrated with the lack of fire-power in reserve.

One striker who has failed to impress and establish himself in the Gunners first-team this season has been Nicklas Bendtner. Several reports have suggested that the Dane’s future at Arsenal is in major doubt, and as such, could be on his way out of the club at the end of the season. Potentially, any transfer fees recouped from Bendtner’s probable sale could be put towards the Benzema bid this summer.

I would as most supporters love for this to happen but at 20m even for someone as good and young at only 23 Benzema might be too much for Arsene which is regrettable…. If he does leave RM he’ll want to prove to them and everyone else though what a mistake it was to sell him, so his new club (which i do hope is Arsenal) would be getting a great & determined player. All the things that we lacked against Stoke.

I’d be happy with Benzema or Falcao. With the exception of RVP they’re better than what we have and are out and strikers. Either of those two with RVP playing the withdrawn Bergkamp role would produce 40-50 goals per season easy….

I fully do agree. And with our loss to stoke city ifrom arsene s post match comments I think he knw has realised the calls for quality to arsenal and nt the constant acquiring of average players lyk bendtenr ,eboue, squilacci personaly I think he nw reliases that have to pay 20m for quality players and benzema is quality if he comes he will nt only bring goals bt he can also partner RVP and allow for RVP to have more freedom on the pitch so he can take up the rooney role that rooney has for man u and even if we he is pricey we cn sell bendtner for a cool 7or 8 m so pls arsene

Bendtner is useless, Benzema is quality and for 20 million, thats a fine price for someone of his quality in my opinion, will fire in the goals

While it would be churlish to criticise Van Persie for his efforts this sorry season, I cannot forget that, strictly speaking, he is very much a left-sided player. Early on against Stoke he had a great opportunity to open the scoring from a good position close on goal from the left. He still tried to use his left boot when his right was needed. Later on, his actual goal was scored with his right so you cannot say he can’t use it. The signing of a two-footed striker would allow Van P. more freedom to roam.

He was predominantly fully left footed so the fact that he now uses his right is now a plus… He can only get better

This would be awesome! Not quite sure I believe it though.

I would love for Arsenal to get Benzema but I don’t see it happening. I don’t think Wenger will spend the money to get him although I personally would.

  • cent says:

    Wenger sign him pls

There must be a reason why Mourinho doesn’t
Iike Benzema. He scores a lot against small teams (and in Spain the small teams are really small) but fails in the big games.

I’m not saying he is not a good striker. It’s just that there’s no guarantee that he will be a success at Arsenal. £20m is a huge gamble for us and one that Wenger is unlikely to take. I’ll also be surprised if we manage to get him for £20m. Man City, Chelsea and others will look to hijack the deal.
