So I read in The Sun today that Arsene Wenger is back in the hunt for Bosnian ‘powerhouse’ Emir Spahic, which has left me with a stupid look on my face asking – why?!
Wenger tried to sign the 30-year-old centre-back last summer from Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier, but the French club demanded a staggering £25 million for the Bosnian international which Wenger rightly refused to pay.
Aston Villa are also said to be interested in the defender’s services, but it is thought that Spahic is keener on a move to Arsenal. The Bosnian international was quoted in The Sun today saying:
‘I will play in another country next season. I have a preference for England.’
I think it’s fair to say that Arsenal need to acquire a centre-back this summer in order to tighten up their back-line for next season’s campaign. But why on earth is Wenger wasting his time on Emir Spahic?
Spahic maybe a good defender, but Arsenal don’t need ‘good’ defenders, they need great ones.
In my opinion, Wenger should be looking at more established centre-backs, ones preferably in their mid 20’s. Bolton’s Gary Cahill, Werder Bremen’s Per Mertesacker and Ajax’s Jan Vertonghen are defenders that Arsenal should be looking to acquire this summer.
Please don’t waste your time and money on another 30-year-old Mr. Wenger…we already have Sebastien Squillaci at the club.

Is he serious, going for a 30 year old, when there are much better and younger options like Gary Cahill, Per Mertesacker or even Jan Vertonghen. He is seriously taking the p*** and if he thinks he’ll be good enough to help us win a title then he is seriously lost it. Infact I guarantee we won’t win anything if he signs him or any other useless players.
There are only 3 defenders we should look at.
Subotic
Sakho
Cahill.
That’s it, in that order. Mertesacker is too slow and has the turning circle of a boat! He’d get found out in the prem’. Vertonghen is good. But just good. Too hit and miss with form so we don’t need that either. To be honest if we can’t get any of these 3 i wouldn’t be too bothered. Djourou has been amazing. TV5 is back next season and he’s been a big big loss. Koscielney has shown signs of being a future quality player, and Bartley will be coming back for next season too bringing with him European experience and goals too. Botelho is coming back from his 3 year loan. I think we need 3 signings and none of them are a CB.
1 – Falcao (Striker)
2 – Hazard (Winger)
3 – M’illa or Inler
With these thress signings i belive we could go back to our brand of “if you score 2 we’ll score 4” type of football.
Spahic is crap end of. If Squillaci leaves and Wenger bring in this guy then the Frenchman has officially lost the plot!
3 names…..Cahill, Inler, Falcao! Bring back Frimpong, Lansbury, Miyaichi and we are set! Out….Almunia,Eboue,Denilson,Diaby,Fabregas,Rosicky,Bendtner! £70m in players right there!
Don’t bother with anybody. in fact, keep the current squad, give everybody a 10% raise. The quadruple next year is definitely achievable. In Arsene We Trust.

Go buy a proper defender Wenger, not one that will only get a year at the club! you muppet!
We dont need any CB frm anywhere, wat we need is a defensive coach who will make our players to put there body in line rather than dodging shots from tiote and huddlestone leaving the good keeper exposed without enough awareness of what is coming. If the boss will be reasonable, he should get ryo back, bartley, frimpong, and dispose the underperforming squilacci, denilson, rosicky, chamahk, almunia. This guys should atleast get us 25mil if they can’t get a trophy then bring in neymar or falcao, hazard is a must buy wenger, inler then we are good to begin the next campaign. We don’t need experience but support from the home fans then emirates wil be the teams fortress once more. I know some are thinking of eboue and diaby should be in the list of outgoing players but i believe this guys can come back to who they used to be, and bendtner no one should think of selling that guy,he is an asset but need to wake up.
If you think Cahill, Mertesacker and Verwhattafu*k are better than Spahic, you are delusional, and ignorant of French football.
Spahic is a better defender than any of our current defenders, including vermaelen, he is 30 though.
