What FIVE things did we learn about Arsenal in the North London derby last night?

|

Arsenal once again dropped two precious points in their pursuit of league leaders Manchester United, as they failed to keep hold of a 2 goal lead against arch-rivals Tottenham at White Hart Lane last night.

Wenger’s men struck first thanks to Theo Walcott’s cool finish in the fifth minute, which certainly set the tone of the game. Unfortunately for Arsenal the lead didn’t last long as Spurs replied 2 minutes later through playmaker Rafael van der Vaart.

In the 12th minute Samir Nasri put the Gunners 2-1 in front, after the Frenchman let fly a powerful effort 20 yards from goal which went through Michael Dawson’s legs and crashed into the back of the net.

Arsenal then doubled their advantage after William Gallas failed to deal with Bacary Sagna’s cross. The ball then fell to Walcott who dinked the ball back into the 6-yard box which met Robin van Persie’s head. Gomes managed to save the Dutchman’s tame header, but his weak parry fell back to the Arsenal striker who then belted the ball into the roof of the net – 3-1.

Arsenal were in cruise control at this point, but before the first 45 were over, Spurs managed to cut their deficit. The Gunners failed to deal with a corner which fell to Tom Huddlestone 20-yards from goal, who then arrowed in a potent effort which sparked a Spurs revival.

Due to last night’s result, Arsenal are now at 10/1 to win the Premier League

Redknapp’s men then equalized with a penalty in the 70th minute. Wojciech Szczesny brought down Aaron Lennon in the box, which Van der Vaart coolly converted.

It was undoubtedly one of the best games of the season which was injected with passion, free-flowing football, and above all, lots of goals. A truly great North London derby to behold.

Arsenal will undoubtedly be the unhappier of the two clubs, as they now sit in third place, 6 points behind Manchester United with 5 games left to play.

Mathematically, Arsenal’s title hopes remain in tact, but last night’s result certainly did not help their cause in any way shape or form.

    6. Arsenal get too complacent when going ahead in games.
    7. Wenger’s timing of subs are pointless (speaking in terms of Arshavin and Bendtner)

Sorry I put 7 but I couldn’t really take any of these points out.

    1. It’s time for Theo to be moved upfront alongside van Persie (although I learnt that a while ago – it must be apparent to Wenger).
    2. That shooting from outside the area can result in scoring goals.
    3. Nasri is most effective through the middle.
    4. Arshavin can execute sliding tackles.
    5. By bringing on Bendtner and playing him right wing, Wenger is essentially saying ‘I don’t want us to score again.’

    WENGER OUT! KLOPP IN!!!
