Paul Gascoigne believes Jack Wilshere must ignore hype in order to achieve greatness

|

Former England international Paul Gascoigne has advised Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere to overlook what he reads in the papers if he wishes to become an England icon, according to talkSPORT.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a spectacular rise to recognition this season after becoming a regular for both Arsenal and England, which has also led to the midfielder being likened to ‘Gazza’ himself.

Paul Gascoigne told Hawksbee and Jacobs on their afternoon sports show yesterday:

‘I think my advice for him is, try not to believe a lot of the stuff that you read.’

‘I know when I played if I had a bad game and scored one I’d get the headlines for two weeks and then start believing what I read.

‘If I played brilliant and the press said I played bad then you read that and start thinking you played bad.’

The England legend also conceded that he has been hugely impressed with Wilshere’s performances this season, and believes the Three Lions have a great player in their ranks:

‘I’ve seen bits of him, he’s fantastic.’

He added:

‘Some of the stuff he comes out with on a football field is just incredible. He’s a great talent and it’s good for England.’

‘Watching that game against Ghana the other night it looks as if we’ve got a great prospect coming through. He played the ball around well, he was quick, his movement off the ball was fantastic. He must continue to do exactly what he’s doing and I don’t think he can wrong.’

I totally agree with Gazza on this one. Although Wilshere has performed incredibly well for club and country this season, the 19-year-old must simply not let the publicity get to him, and ultimately, distract his future performances.

The young midfielder has shown on a number of occasions already this season that he is a talented footballer, and it would be a real shame if he were to get drawn into the hype.

Keep your feet and mind firmly on the ground Jacky boy, and trust me you’ll go far.

I agree with gazza, Wilshere must not let the hype consume him, he is a quality player and is definately class, but he must focus on playing football and forget about all the media hype surrounding his football, or else he could become big headed and think he is too good to perform week in week out.
