Belgium international Jan Vertonghen insists he is ready for a summer move to one of Europe’s top clubs, and has listed Arsenal as a possible destination, according to Sportingo.
The 23-year-old told Dutch publication, Voetbal international:
‘I am ready to join a club like Arsenal or A.C Milan’
Vertonghen is primarily a centre-back by trade, but the Belgian can also be deployed as an emergency left-back or defensive midfielder. The versatile Ajax man has been with the Dutch outfit since 2003, but became a first-team regular in 2007.
The Belgium international has so far made 180 appearances (in all competitions) for Ajax, and has managed to bag 18 goals along the way. Although Verthongen is ready for a new challenge, the young defender appreciates what Dutch football has done for his career:
‘Playing Dutch football has made me the footballer I am now.’
It is thought that Vertonghen, who still has three-years left on his current contract, could be acquired for around £8-10 million this summer, which will no doubt alert a number of top sides around Europe. However, judging by what the player has stated, it seems evidently clear that he only has Arsenal and Milan currently on his mind.
So I ask – would the 6’3’’ Belgian centre-back, who once played alongside Thomas Vermaelen, be Arsenal’s ideal summer signing?

He looks a good prospect, he has played with Vermaelen before and he should be fit for next season, if he is bought then he and Vermaelen will gel instantly. I would Wenger to get a defender but unfortunately I don’t see him buying anyone.

Well, without knowing a thing about this guy all I can say is, “if he`s of the same quality as Vermalean and they`ve played together, buy him”.
Price doesn`t seem to be a problem. Now, providing Fabregas stays put, all we need is a top class striker with the `killer instinct`, that can`t be too much to ask can it?
Veetonghen would be a great buy along with M’vila, A.Young, Benzema! 4 players and it could make all the difference. Almunia, Clichy, Eboue, Denilson, Fabregas, Rosicky, Bendtner can all be sold to help finance the new players!Players already at the club….Song, Frimpong, Wilshere, Ramsey, Diaby, Nasri, Arshavin can all play in our midfield….RVP, Chamakh, Walcott, Vela as our striking options
