Isn’t Cesc Fabregas just expressing what most Arsenal fans already know?

|

Cesc Fabregas looks set to clash with Arsene Wenger, after the midfielder claimed that the Frenchman would have been sacked if he was in charge of a Spanish club, according to the Daily Mail.

In an interview with Spanish magazine, Don Balon, the Arsenal captain questioned Wenger’s grand project and also called upon the new owners of the club to decide between nurturing talent or lifting silverware:

‘If you went to Spain and said to Pep Guardiola (the Barca manager), Jose Mourinho (Real Madrid) or Unai Emery (Valencia) they would have three years without a trophy, it would be obvious they would not continue. But here it is different, the manager is intelligent and the club value different things: that the team is always in the Champions League, that we compete until the end, that we have young players, economic stability. It is here where a decision has to be made: to go out to win or to develop players.’

The 23-year-old also talked about his own future and stated that he would never leave Arsenal for another Premier league club, but has left the door open for a potential move back to boyhood club Barcelona if the Gunners don’t move in the direction he sees fit:

‘If one day I leave Arsenal, it will never be to sign for another English club. That is for certain.’

Although a number of fans will not agree with the Spaniard’s latest ‘outburst’, I certainly do. Wenger would have been given the chop about 3-4 years ago if he was in charge of a Spanish club, let alone another Premier League one. Jose Mourinho once claimed that Wenger has the safest job in the world…my word is the Real manager right.

Of course every Arsenal fan classifies success differently. Some think success is measured by silverware; others believe success is finishing in the top four every season. Me, I am with the former of the two.

At the end of the day do Arsenal want to be known as a team that nurtures young talent, or a team that bags trophies year in year out? Looks to me like Fabregas and I crave the latter…hopefully so does Wenger.

Cses is right, winger should start thinking of winning trophies or leave the club

  • Bob says:

Cesc is correct what he said about Wenger, if he was in Spain he would have been sacked.

Had this outburst not been made about three ago my stance would have differed. But at the same time I Wenger would put his doubters to shame if he has the same resources at his disposal just like the likes mentioned in the article.
