Gael Clichy – ‘My present and future is with Arsenal’

|

Gael Clichy has recently confirmed that he will not be leaving Arsenal this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old is said to be one of many Arsenal players heading out of the club this summer as Arsene Wenger plans a squad exodus following Stan Kroenke’s recent takeover.

However, Clichy, who would be available on a free next summer, has admitted he is keen to sign a new deal with the Gunners but would rather focus on his football until the conclusion of the season. He was quoted in the Daily Mail saying:

‘When I arrived at Arsenal it was because I wanted to improve myself as a player and to win titles, and that is normal with any player.’

‘Wenger persuaded me to come here at a time when I was receiving offers from other clubs – and I have to say that my present and my future is with Arsenal.’

The Frenchman added:

‘I am leaving talks over my contract with my agent so that I can focus on my football. I know that there are rumours about me going elsewhere but I have nothing to say about that.’

‘I have always wanted to be at a club where I am content. Money is important but it is not a decisive factor. All I want is to win a title – that’s my ultimate ambition.’

Gael Clichy has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A outfit Juventus in the past couple of weeks following his failure to negotiate a new Arsenal deal. However, it now appears that the French full-back sees his long-term future at the North London club, which may not go down well with a number of Arsenal fans considering his performances this season.

It is good to see that he committed to Arsenal but in honestly he needs to improve big time. He has been a massive disappointment this season and the seasons before. If he doesn’t improve then he needs to be sold and a new replacement needs to come in.

    Finally he is off.
