Is the title race over for Arsenal?

|

There will be no more Premier League matches in March, and this of course will be of huge relief to Arsenal and their supporters given the disaster it has proven to be for them this season. Knocked out of three separate competitions and further behind the leaders than they would have anticipated, it has truly been a month to forget.

The title race is obviously still alive mathematically speaking, but this team shows no signs of getting out of the rut. This is not entirely down to mental frailties – injuries are beginning to take their toll for the first time this season, and this combined with the dwindling confidence running through the side is causing the unceremonious slide away from the lead.

The only way in which it is possible to envisage Arsenal winning the Premier League title from here on in is if Manchester United continue to drop points in the manner in which they did at the beginning of the season. Wins in the ilk of the one against Bolton desperately need to turn into draws and defeats if Arsenal are to stand any chance in the remaining weeks. Relying on a side led by Sir Alex Ferguson to drop a significant number of points at the business end of the season is an extremely risky thing to do.

Arsenal need to try and overcome the burdens of their injury list. The leaders have just as many defenders out as Arsenal do, but they still keep clean sheets on a regular basis. After the international break, the only injuries left shall be defensive ones. Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song, Abou Diaby and Theo Walcott are all expected to be back, and therefore the team should be much stronger in terms of creativity and attack. If Arsenal’s defensive frailties mean that they have to enforce the ‘if you score four, we’ll score five’ game-plan, then they will be better set to do it with the creative hub of the team on the field.

So the title race is not exactly over, but merely infinitely less likely to materialise in favour of the North Londoners. Everything just points the other way – Manchester United have more experience of the big event, a higher points tally despite Arsenal’s game in hand, a much stronger defensive line (even with a long injury list), and most importantly, they are in good form. However, the international break has come at a good time for the Gunners. No doubt many Arsenal players shall have picked up mysterious injuries at the weekend preventing them from pitching up for their respective national teams, and it will provide the team with a much needed break in order to refocus on the task at hand.

Arsenal will be buoyed by the fact that they know if they win every remaining game, they shall be crowned Premier League champions. Evidently, it is hugely unrealistic to suggest this could ever happen.

Whilst it is possible to go on a great run, Arsenal shall not win each one of their fixtures. However, nor shall United. The Red Devils still have some tough matches remaining, but for the North London side, beating Blackburn and Blackpool shall be the minimum requirement in the short-term. After that is achieved, then the title may well and truly be back on.

Not mathematically, but I just can’t see us winning it, the team is not good enough. Alumnia has screwed us as usual and as long as he is in goal we will lose the title.

The problem is with Arsenal once the first team gets injured then we have no replacements for them. For example Szsceny, Fabregas and Song are out, there replacements are Alumnia, Denilson and Diaby, not good enough. We have a lot of bad players at Arsenal and the three I mentioned are probably the worse.

If we lose it I’ll blame Wenger just for the fact he knows we have crap players but he still keeps them, he could have bought players in January but he didn’t. He is such a stubborn manager and really frustrates me. I hope we win the title but I don’t see it happening. It would be funny if we didn’t win it just for the fact that it would put pressure on Wenger. It’s actually quite funny thinking that we could have won four competitions and now we could win nothing.

  • Undeniably consider that that you said. Your favorite reason appeared to be at the web the simplest thing to bear in mind of. I say to you, I definitely get irked whilst other people think about issues that they plainly don’t understand about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as neatly as outlined out the entire thing without having side-effects , other people could take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thank you
