Galatasary have emerged as the leading candidate to sign out-of-favour Arsenal shot stopper Manuel Almunia, according to reports on Goal.com.

Almunia has been out of the first team since injuring his elbow in September against West Brom. Further injuries and the good form of Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny means that Almunia could now find himself as third choice goalkeeper, and it is this drop down the pecking order which has alerted the Turkish giants to his availability.

Manager Arsene Wenger believes that Szczesny is Arsenal’s long term first choice goalkeeper so would be prepared to let Almunia leave should any potential suitor match his £1.5 million valuation of the goalkeeper – something that Galatasary seem prepared to do.

It is believed that Almunia, who has played over 100 games for Arsenal since joining in 2004, would prefer a move to Spain where Malaga and Athletico Madrid are said to be showing an interest. However, only Galatasary appear to have made a firm enquiry for the player who could be leaving the Emirates this month.
