Arsenal clear to land German star as Bayern drop interest

|

Arsenal have been given a clear path to land Julian Draxler after Bayern Munich dropped out of the race for the German’s signature.

The Gunners have been long-term admirers of the Wolfsburg playmaker and were linked with a move for him last summer, and although he was keen to leave, Draxler opted to remain at the Bundesliga club

Draxler is reportedly unhappy at Wolfsburg after his own fans booed him during the club’s 3-2 defeat to Hertha Berlin earlier in the month and is keen to leave at the earliest opportunity.

Bayern Munich were supposedly interested in the 23-year-old, but boss Carlo Ancelotti insists he will not be making a move for the German international in January.

Quoted in The Sun, the Bayern coach said:

‘Draxler is a very interesting player, full stop. He can play in any team.

‘[But] our team is complete. We won’t do anything in winter – there’s no market for us.’

Wolfsburg’s sporting director Klaus Allofs insists Draxler will not be sold in January, while reports in Germany claim Draxler will not play for Wolfsburg again.

So, with Bayern uninterested in Draxler, Arsene Wenger has now been given a free run at signing the former Schalke man. However, the Frenchman will have to splash out as much as £30 million for his signature.
