Arsenal are set to rival Premier League leaders Manchester City in the pursuit of Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, according to The Sun.

The 19-year-old has impressed on numerous occasions for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, and was particularly influential in their 3-3 draw with Pep Guardiola’s City in the UEFA Champions League last month.

However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reportedly been keeping a close eye on Tierney’s progress over the last 18 months, and is set to rival any City approach which may take place in January.

The young full-back made his senior debut for Celtic just over a year ago in a victory at Dundee, yet it was last season when the Scottish international really made a name for himself.

Tierney made the left-back spot his own in 2015/16, making 33 starts in all competitions to help the Bhoys retain their Scottish Premiership title.

He also netted his first senior goal last season – in a 7-0 win over Motherwell on the final day – and made his debut for the Scotland national side in their win over Denmark.

It’s hardly a surprise that the 19-year-old is attracting interest from some of England biggest clubs, such is his great form for Celtic, and it also makes sense that Wenger is considering a move for the teenager.

First choice left-back Nacho Monreal is 30 now and it seems that Kieran Gibbs is falling out-of-favour at the Emirates, so Tierney could provide the Gunners boss with a long-term option at left-back.
