Arsenal attacker Theo Walcott has stated that his improved form at the Emirates Stadium is down to a change in mentality and a dedication to excel this season.

The versatile forward has always been a dangerous attacking weapon for the North London side, but there has been disagreements over what the star’s best position is.

Walcott has been vocal in the past that he wanted to play as a centre forward, but has found his route into the team blocked by Olivier Giroud.

This meant that last term the former Southampton man was mostly used as a substitute and he missed out on England’s Euro 2016 squad as a result of not playing regularly at club level.

Walcott has reverted to his wing role this season in the absence of Aaron Ramsey and has been a dominant force in Arsenal’s strong start to the new campaign.

The attacker, who scored in the 3-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend, has stated that a shift in mentality has been key to his excellent performances for the Gunners.

“Where did my change in mindset come from? It probably was from myself,” The Daily Mail quote Walcott as saying.

“I found it difficult last year, coming towards the end of the season I didn’t get opportunities but I was still working hard. It is probably from then, I spoke to many people and it maybe woke up something in my system. I am completely different.

“I just want to be better and better, people have had so much faith in me and you never give up. I tend to think I need to repay people, but I also think I need to do it for myself now. Maybe in the past I was thinking about others and not myself.”
