Why this man isn’t the solution to our striking problem

Ezequiel LavezziIt was reported a few days ago that Arsenal are interested in signing Ezequiel Lavezzi this summer.

It is thought the 29-year-old is unsettled at Paris Saint-Germain having been in and out of the side since his move from Napoli in 2012, and could be set to leave the Ligue 1 champions after the World Cup concludes.

It’s no secret that Arsene Wenger is looking to add a striker to his squad ahead of the new season as the Frenchman only has Olivier Giroud to call upon.

But is Lavezzi the right man for Arsenal?

Well although he is a very good forward, Lavezzi, who scored 11 goals in 43 appearances for PSG last season, has operated most of his career as an inside forward, one which cuts in from the wing.

He possesses great technical ability, has the knack to go past defenders and is a fairly consistent performer.

He hasn’t performed as well as many hoped for when he moved to PSG as he had done for Napoli, but the Argentine, on his day, can be deadly and very effective.

Although he would be a decent signing for our club, I don’t think he’s what we desperately need. We need a fast forward to come in, one who can run onto through balls and Giroud’s flick-ons, and while Lavezzi does possess these qualities he is not what you would call a traditional centre-forward.

I wouldn’t mind him coming in but I don’t think he is the solution to our striking problems.
