arsenal-badgeMy Arsenal player ratings from today’s 1-0 win against Southampton (feel free to argue or agree with me if you had match tickets for the game):

Wojciech Szczesny – Was called into action a number of times in the game but nothing that really troubled the Pole. Looks more assured as the weeks go by. 7/10

Bacary Sagna – Pushed up when on the attack and delivered one or two decent balls into the opposing box. Defensively sound and kept position well throughout. 7/10

Per Mertesacker – Another confident display from the German defender following his goal against England in midweek. Kept position superbly and read the game to a tee. 7/10

Laurent Koscielny – Like his centre-back partner, Kos pulled out another great performance. Positioned well throughout, won aerial challenges and made some interceptions here and there. 7/10

Kieran Gibbs – Always offered an overlap and got forward well. 7/10

Mikel Arteta – Misplaced a few passes today and at times struggled with Southampton’s quick movement. Got stuck in and done better as the game wore on. Picked up an injury and as a result was replaced late on in the second-half. 6/10

Jack Wilshere – Was slow to release the ball at times and found it hard to stamp his authority on the game. 5/10

Aaron Ramsey – Almost scored a wonderful back heel flick if not for the post, although the Welshman failed to run the game in midfield as he has done in recent weeks. Not one of his better performances this season. 6/10

Santi Cazorla – was nowhere to be seen in the first 45 but performed a whole lot better in the second, showcasing his quick feet and movement. Has seen better days in an Arsenal shirt. 6/10

Mesut Ozil – Always looked for the incisive pass but was unable to deliver it today. Moved the ball around smoothly and always moved into unoccupied space, but isn’t becoming the promotional tool for Emirates Stadium tickets as many thought he would. 6.5/10

Olivier Giroud – Bagged his sixth and seventh goal of the Premier League campaign and was arguably Arsenal’s Man of the Match today. 8/10

SUBS:

Theo Walcott – Came of for Cazorla with 20 minutes to go and saw a respectable 16-yard effort flash just wide of Southampton’s goal. Made some decent diagonal runs forward as well. 5/10

Tomas Rosicky – Replaced Arteta in the 73rd minute and was told to tighten up Arsenal’s midfield. Got stuck in. N/A

Nacho Monreal – Came on for Ozil with seven minutes left to play. Was brought on to help and cover Gibbo on the left. N/A

I think Giroud should be rated 7/10. Its not always all about the goals but the overall performance of a player in the match. For me, Koscielny was the Man of the Match and would have been well rated at 8/10. He read the game well, made more interceptions and offered something going forward too. It was a massive leapt in performance compared to his nightmarish outing for France.

Giroud 7/10 Wilshire was actually better today he played with a lot of confidence and was direct he did a very good job I would give him 6.5/10. Laurent K was very impressive today 8/10 he did little wrong today.
