Despite being heavily linked with a January swoop for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, Arsene Wenger insists he doesn’t want to sign the French striker, claiming it wouldn’t be ‘a good idea’.
The Gunners are short of options upfront and Benzema has been on Wenger’s radar since the forward’s Lyon days. But a move for his fellow compatriot looks unlikely to ensue this winter.
When asked about a potential move for the 25-year-old and the prospect of playing alongside Giroud at the Emirates, Wenger replied:
‘I don’t think that’s a good idea.’
This statement came after revealing – ahead of the Southampton game yesterday – that he does not plan to sign another striker, claiming Arsenal can win the Premier League title with what they currently have in the attacking department.
Personally, I believe Wenger has to sign another forward if we are to seriously challenge for the title. We have done superbly well thus far, but during the Christmas period we usually fizzle out and relying on Giroud to bag the goals from now until May would be risky and a little naive.
If Wenger doesn’t see Benzema as the right man to fire us to silverware this season then fair enough, but hopefully he has another forward in mind instead.
I think wenger enjoys almost winning silverware. .
I dnt care is option , but if at all he wanna stand †?? high chance of winning anything this season he should sign a prolífic striker not just to strike only but for competition also…..to ???????????? Benzema is G?????????????ø??????????????????? ,, since we cant get Suarex, nor Lawendoski , Cavani, we just need a top finisher that can face defender
Arsene wenger has a plan B,when he says he doesnt want anyone,he actually means he has someone else in mind that he doesnt want to reveal…think gunners.its proff wenger
i just think he’s playing it down so Madrid don’t jack up the price if they know Arsene is exclusively interested.
I agree with Wenger for 2 reasons:
1. Having your 2 top strikers from the same national team means losing them both at the same time if they are on national duty.
2. With CL knockout stage qualification very much within reach now, you don’t want a cup-tied player who adds nothing to your CL ambitions.
But I’m sure Wenger has some other options in mind. Pato, may be?
Whoever he goes for, i pray it will be in the mould of Suarez, Aguero etc; i mean a striker who knows where d goal-post is, the one who can curve balls from free-kicks, who can take shots from distance, one is s quick and very bold.
Honestly we nd a prolific goal poucher if we most win anytn season. Gunners unlimited!!!
