Did complacency finally kick in?

Before Arsenal’s match against London rivals QPR at Loftus road, Arsene Wenger was asked about the possibility of finishing above Manchester City in the Premier League coming off the back of seven straight wins. Hopes of achieving that feat came to an abrupt halt after succumbing to defeat after Saturday’s result at Loftus Road.

To add to the disappointment of the result, we also missed the chance to go six points clear of Spurs.

A lot went wrong on the day, but the pick of the bunch surprisingly was Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgian international had a rare shocking performance. Though many would disagree, he was largely responsible for conceding both goals.

Adel Taarabt easily turned Vermaelen and firing home for the first, though Wojciech Szczesny was very far from his line, which was a factor.

Jamie Mackie then beat Vermaelen and squared it for Samba Diakite to slam home the winner from about 12-yards – another error from the Belgian which proved fatal.

Definitely a bad day at the office. A few other key points I picked up from the match was Aaron Ramsey’s performance. He was played out of position, which didn’t help our cause at all. Bobby Zamora bullied our defence and our midfield was outplayed at times as well.

So did this loss ultimately come down to complacency? Maybe.

Were we prepared for the game? It certainly didn’t look like it.

Did Wenger make poor tactical decisions? He may well have.

A lot of these could have been a factor which led to our defeat.

Many may say we shouldn’t complain after our great run, but at some point you have to ask why we can’t keep run going. All we can hope for now is that we are not as complacent when Man City comes to town this Sunday.

Wenger got it wrong tactically putting Ramsey out on the wing when he could have had Gervinho or Chamberlin out there. Ramsey kept staying inside giving the Gunners no width. AS for Vermaelen, this should have been a wakeup call, and maybe Johan should start next to Koz next week. The idea that you have someone on the bench that can take your place should be there for everyone, makes you better. That said lets go and take City next weekend.
