Arsenal are reportedly ready to launch a bid for want-away Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder, in an attempt to steal him from under the noses of Manchester United, where a deal was at one point looking imminent. However, United were not prepared to meet the 27-year-olds wage demands of £200,000 a week.
The Dutch international is now thought to be prepared to drop his wages to £140,000-a-week to push his move away from Inter through, which will undoubtedly please interested clubs.
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to match Manchester United’s bid of £35 million for the midfielder. However, the stumbling block (for us anyway) will be the player’s wages – can you truly see Arsenal splashing out £140,000-a-week to a player?
If history is to go by anything, then we will not be signing Sneijder. As much as we would all love to see him at the Emirates, I just don’t feel that we would be prepared to adjust our wage policy to bring in a player of his calibre.
If something miraculous were to happen and Arsenal did manage to sign Sneijder, then of course I, along with others, would be thrilled – it would certainly do wonders towards our club getting rid of the ‘selling club’ image, that’s for sure.
With the transfer market closing on Wednesday, I really hope Arsenal announce a couple of signings as soon as possible, even if one isn’t the Inter maestro.

It is so amazing to hear that the all time mid-fielder, Wesley sneidjer, can be lured to the Emirates stadium in a couple of days now. In fact, it ‘ll be a historic signing for the arsenal manager, Arsene wenger. Looking at the circumstances prevailing around the team, i think it is a wise decision to bring forth such quality players of that calibre in tripple folds. That is, another one as striker and a good defender to make a complete team such that the lost glory can be regained.
I heard that Nike were willing to subsidise Sneijder’s wages so we could sign him. Rumour has it they will pay half of his salary.
Could be a load of bs but not so far fetched, as they would make it back in merchandise sales.
