According to talkSPORT, Arsenal are set to do battle with Everton over Papiss Cisse’s signature.

The 26-year-old Senegalese striker is rated as one of the best forwards in the Bundersliga after netting 41 goals in 63 appearances for Freiburg, where he has been since December 2009.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly looking to strengthen his forward line after loaning out Carlos Vela to Real Sociedad and Nicklas Bendtner apparently wants to leave the Emirates before the transfer deadline. However, the Frenchman faces stiff competition from Premier League rivals Everton, who are also looking to bolster their attacking options.

The good news for interested parties is that Cisse is actually seeking an exit from the Badenova-Stadion, stating that he wants to ‘play at a different level’.

The striker recently told German radio station SWR:

‘I want to leave. I hope that this happens before August 31, I want to try to play at a different level.’

Luckily for him three clubs have already tabled offers for his services, according to Freiburg’s sporting director Dirk Dufner.

Speaking on German sport’s channel Sport1 on Tuesday evening, Dufner said:

‘Things have been shaken up today. We now have three offers on the table. They will be examined closely.’

The German outfit are reportedly looking for around £13.5 million for Cisse’s signature and the Senegal international has recently revealed that he would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League, so even better news for the English sides:

‘I have a contract with Freiburg but I want to play at the highest level. The Premier League is a big league and I want to leave.’

As much as I would like to see another striker come to the Emirates, I believe Wenger has more pressing matters at hand this summer – these being acquiring a much needed centre-back and a creative midfielder.
