‘I’m willing to keep Samir for another year, even if I risk losing him for nothing’ – is Wenger serious?

Arsene Wenger has recently revealed that he would be happy to let contract rebel Samir Nasri leave Arsenal for nothing next summer – just as long as he remains at the Emirates for the upcoming season.

The 24-year-old French star, who has attracted interest from both Manchester clubs, has only one year remaining on his current contract at Arsenal and has so far failed to agree a new deal.

However, Wenger is determined to keep hold of the French international this summer, especially with captain Cesc Fabregas inching his way closer to a move back to boyhood club Barcelona.

Wenger stated:

‘I’m willing to keep Samir for another year, even if I risk losing him for nothing when his deal expires next season.’

‘We are a big club with many good young players so we are confronted with many rumours. But it doesn’t affect much what’s happening inside the club. You could see when he [Nasri] played he wasn’t disturbed by that. He has always had a very good attitude.’

If Nasri doesn’t manage to sign a new deal at Arsenal, and the club are unwilling to sell the midfielder during the summer market, then the Frenchman will effectively leave for nothing next summer. In fact, the French ace would be able to agree a new deal to join a new club as early as January, which would undoubtedly please interested parties.

I strongly believe that Wenger is playing a very dangerous game here.

If Samir doesn’t sign a new deal by mid August, then Wenger should look to sell him, rather than losing him for nothing next summer. I think it would be very unwise to lose a £25 million rated player for zilch; it just wouldn’t make sense. Why should we lose out on the profit again?

Nasri, who travelled with the squad to the Far East and played a cameo role in yesterdays 4-0 win over Malaysia XI, is not the be all and end all at Arsenal (sorry guys but he isn’t), and in my opinion, shouldn’t be holding the club to ransom and playing these silly little games with Wenger and us fans.

He claims money isn’t the issue, winning trophies and being successful is. I can fully appreciate his stance on this; we haven’t won a bean in six-years and just like the fans, some players do feel frustrated and annoyed by this, apparently Nasri is one of them. But surely he must show some form of loyalty and believe that Arsenal can meet his ambitions?

To be honest, I’m not fussed what he decides to do this summer. However, should he decide not to seal a new deal at the Emirates by mid August the latest, then Wenger should definitely look to offload him and move on.

Is Wenger playing a dangerous game with this Nasri issue?

I also think that this is the most troublesome, but also the wisest decision. Nasri apparently wants to force Wenger into giving him more, either in monetary terms, or in football terms (which, I guess, means being able to play behind the striker rather than on the wing). By making this stand, Wenger is sending back a message that a) he won’t be forced into any position by any player, and b) he does want to play Nasri more extensively. Of course, you can read it out of context, and then you’ll only see the millions passing Arsenal by or the thousands supposedly not on Nasri’s account. There’s always the option that Nasri goes off in January (if Fabregas is alright and Gervinho proves to be up to it), which would mean Arsenal would get less for him, but he would also be less valuable and less menacing toward Arsenal (unplayable in Europe, for instance).

i dont relly know what to say… samir should remember the past, that is wenger that makes him to be what he is today… i think, he should show some loyality to wenger and to arsenal football club.. i cant believe nasri can be so nasty like these.. for instance, look at fabregas case, i know he want to go back to barcelona… but he never disrepect wenger or arsenal football club… so nasri should think twice anyway… so if he dont want to sign in august, pls papa wenger just sale him and let us 4get abt him… thanks papa weneger, i appreciate what u have been doing for arsenal football club, since you comes to arsenal… the others club are jealous of us in time of finacially statues, but we dont care abt them… and they want to bring problems into arsenal.. but they are too small to do so… arsenal football club is a great club… if nasri goes today, i trust wenger that we will get 10 of him in the coming years.. thanks once more wenger

If Wenger has indicated this, or something close to it, I can understand his reasoning even if I may not agree with it. “The club is more important than the player”, how often we hear that cliche! The club needs silverware not necessarily loyalty right now. If Wenger has assessed the professionalism of Nasri and Fabregas correctly he will know they will commit themselves totally to Arsenal and hopefully silverware for one more year. That`s all he needs.

no f*cking sh*t youd keep him
    are you stupid
best player this season and well well worth the risk of losing him when his contract is finished.
anyway, we all know he loves arsenal and even made an appearance in the match v malaysia. he is committed to arsenal and will probably re-sign for many years to come

Nasri will probably sign a new contrct during the season. He can do it any time over the next 12 months.
