Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo ‘fits the profile’ as Arsenal look to bolster auxiliary options.

Gakpo has been a hot prospect on the transfer market of late, with Leeds United and Southampton failing in bids to land the fiery forward this summer.

The 23-year-old Dutch sensation also made waves this month with revelations that a move to Manchester United “was close” this year.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said:

“Arsenal is an interesting one, because, throughout the transfer window, I think the right side of the attack was a priority position.

“Now, Gakpo’s primary position, and preferred position, is on the left, but he can play in the centre and he can play on the right. [Bukayo] Saka’s occupying that right side of the front three just now.

“He would be someone that Arsenal would look at. I think it would fit the profile as well, as far as Arteta is concerned, because we know what he’s trying to build a squad of young players who’ve got high ceilings and high potential so it could be one that Arsenal do look at in January, potentially, but the summer is more realistically.”

Our thoughts on Gakpo’s potential move to the Emirates Stadium…

The prolific hotshot, rated at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, certainly fits the mould of player Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is striving for, with dynamism, positional versatility and youth all factors that will play into the Spaniard’s mind as he looks to add firepower to a burgeoning squad.

PSV’s starring talisman, who journalist Josh Bunting once dubbed as “electric“, has produced a stunning return for the Eredivisie outfit this term, clinching 13 goals and assists apiece after just 20 matches played.

Indeed, last year’s Dutch Player of the Year winner has duly impressed, so much so that Arsenal’s technical director Edu is considering tabling an offer to bring the towering 6’2” left forward to the Emirates.

Interest might be high, but Sheth believes a deal might be complicated during the winter transfer window, saying “it could be one Arsenal do look at in January, but the summer is more realistic.”

Gakpo has also captained PSV during every league outing since the third match week of the season this term, as well as the Europa League fixture at the Emirates against Arsenal, where the Boeren fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Speaking to football.london after the defeat, Gakpo hailed the “great atmosphere” despite a “frustrating” evening against a slick and oiled unit.

With the winger ostensibly impressed by the Gunners, fuel is only added to the fire as transfer talk hots up, but with The Athletic reporting that Manchester United are still maintaining their interest, whilst Spanish titans Real Madrid have cast a watchful eye over the nine-cap Netherlands international, a deal will need to be perfectly executed.
