Arsenal have invested heavily into their squad this summer but Unai Emery’s rebuild at the Emirates Stadium is far from complete.

Despite the captures of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, the Gunners are still eyeing midfield recruits following the departures of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla on free transfers – and Emery wants a reunion with a former star.

Arsenal are widely attributed with interest in Sevilla’s World Cup winning defensive midfielder Steven N’Zonzi but are unwilling to meet the demands for the 29-year-old, which has left the LaLiga side confident they will retain his services.

Quoted by Metro, Sevilla’s president made the club’s desire to keep N’Zonzi clear.

“We want Steven N’Zonzi to come back here, he is our player. There is nothing else to it and there is no offer.”

The chances of Arsenal concluding a deal for the former Stoke City and Blackburn midfielder now look slim with just a week to go until the transfer deadline.
