Arsenal set to announce another defensive signing as Emery spree continues

|

Arsenal have been extremely active under the guidance of new boss Unai Emery and the Spaniard shows no signs of ending his spree.

The Gunners have already added Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastahopoulos, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira to their ranks in the current market but another defensive addition is on the cards.

The Evening Standard states Arsenal are set to announce the capture of 16-year-old full-back Joel Lopez from Barcelona, signing the teenager on a scholarship deal with an agreement for a first professional deal when he turns 17 in March.

Lopez will arrive as a potential long-term replacement for ageing compatriot Nacho Monreal and will join the U18 side initially, with the aim of developing into a first-team player in the coming years – following in the footsteps of another former Barcelona man; Hector Bellerin.

Earlier this month, Lopez made it clear he would not remain in Catalonia as he said:

“It will be the club that I always carry in my heart for all the wonderful moments that I have lived. It was a difficult decision but after contemplating it with my family I made the decision to go and start a new stage as a footballer with great enthusiasm.”
