Arsenal are confident that midfielder Jack Wilshere will sign a new contract despite being offered a new deal which would effectively see him take a £30k a week pay cut.

The Daily Telegraph report that the 26 year old is currently on £110,000 a week, but the Gunners are only offering £90,000 a week for the player to stay on beyond the end of the season.

Including bonuses, Wilshere could still earn £110k a week if he stays fit, but it will still effectively mean his basic wage will be approximately 20% below what he has been on for the last six years.

The England international has never shown any intention of leaving Arsenal under his own volition, but there are reports he could be tempted by other more lucrative offers.

The Sun report Liverpool are willing to pay him the same wages he is on at the moment, while Calciomercato.com say Juventus are also monitoring the player’s situation.
