Why Arsenal shouldn’t be too concerned by Chelsea’s pursuit of French ace

|

Chelsea will attempt to muscle in on Arsenal’s attempts to sign Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Blues are reportedly seriously considering an offer for the 22 year old with the Frenchman valued at £80m. The Gunners’ London rivals believe they have two factors in their favour which give them the edge in the race to sign the midfielder.

Firstly, they believe they can offer a number of players in exchange for Lemar who Monaco would be interested in signing. Secondly, the club’s new sporting director Michael Emenalo held a similar position at Chelsea up until a few weeks ago, and he maybe more inclined to make a deal with the Blues.

However, the Telegraph also report that Antonio Conte’s side may be considering Lemar as a left wing back; a position he has never played in, and that they are weighing up whether to pursue the France international or Juventus left back Alex Sandro.

If Chelsea were genuinely considering playing Lemar as a wing back, I think it is safe to say that Arsenal would not have much to worry about in the battle to sign the midfielder. Playing in his favoured position would no doubt be number one on the Frenchman’s wishlist if he moves clubs either in January or in the summer.
