Arsenal were one of 26 clubs watching FC Basel’s match against Benfica on Tuesday night, according to Bluewin.ch.

The Swiss champions have progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League after their 2-0 win at the Estadio da Luz; finishing runners up to Manchester United in Group A.

Bluewin.ch reports that a number of promising young Basel players were being watched by observing scouts, but the most relevant for Gunners fans will be Dimitri Oberlin.

Oberlin is a target for Arsenal with a report by TMW last month suggesting that the 20 year old was being watched, not only by Arsene Wenger’s side, but also by Manchester United, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Roma.

The Swiss striker would have impressed onlookers with his performance against Benfica, heading in the second goal mid way through the second half to seal victory. Interestingly, Oberlin has scored more goals in the Champions League (4) than in the Swiss Super League (3) this season, but at 20 years of age, the striker has time on his side to develop a ruthlessness in front of goal.
