Schalke attacking midfielder Leon Goretzka could very well be moving to England after Germany’s general manager Oliver Bierhoff made a comment in an interview with the Guardian that suggested the 22 year old has a Premier League switch lined up.
Goretzka has been linked to Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham in recent months, but speculation in the German media had suggested a switch to Bayern Munich was more likely. Former AC Milan and Udinese striker Bierhoff has however indicated a move to an English team could be on the cards:
“We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leroy Sane and [Schalke’s] Leon Goretzka are moving to England and this is not good for our league but also for the quality of our game. We have to pay attention and invest again and again in the education of our coaches.”
Whether Bierhoff just misspoke or it was a genuine slip of the tongue, we may have to wait until January to find out. Goretzka’s contract expires in the summer but he can talk to other clubs in January and sign a pre-contract agreement in view to a free transfer switch next year.
So far this season, the German international has been in good form with four goals and one assist in his first ten games this season.
