It seems that Benfica midfielder Joao Carvalho could be joining Championship club Wolves in January, despite interest from Premier League teams.

The Portuguese Under 21 star was linked with a move to Arsenal by the Record newspaper on Wednesday but the same publication suggested yesterday that Carvalho may be making the move to Molineux instead.

It is not known whether the 20 year old will be joining on loan or permanently at this stage, but it seems the midfielder is being lined up for a switch to the Midlands.

Carvalho’s agent is Jorge Mendes, and his involvement in the deal makes it clear why Wolves are the front runners for the player. The super agent has been acting as the Championship side’s de facto transfer adviser since a Chinese consortium Fosun international took over the club in 2016.

Mendes was also instrumental in bringing Porto midfielder and Portuguese international Ruben Neves to the club in the summer, and it seems that Carvalho will be the latest to make the same move.
