Arsenal remain on the trail of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, according to Calciomercato.com, but they will now face competition from Napoli who are also looking at signing the 23 year old.
Before the transfer window closed, Spanish publication Don Balon reported that the Gunners, along with Tottenham and Roma were lining up a bid for the midfielder but no move materialised.
Suarez signed for just €3.5m on a buyback clause from Villarreal at the start of last season, and made 39 appearances under manager Luis Enrique. Under new coach Ernesto Valverde however, he has so far struggled for game time.
He came on as a substitute in Barca’s first two league matches of the campaign against Real Betis and Alaves, but he was not even named in the squad for the first match after the international break, in the La Liga side’s 5-0 derby win over Espanyol.
Suarez looks to have too much competition in central midfield with Paulinho and Sergio Roberto now also competing with the likes of Andre Gomes to break in to the first team eleven.
