Arsenal set to battle two Premier League teams for key summer signing

|

French TV station Telefoot reports there are four clubs looking to sign Monaco left winger Thomas Lemar this summer.

Among them, are three Premier League clubs: Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, while Juventus are also in the running for the 21 year old. Lemar is a key summer target for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger but the inclusion of other Premier League clubs in the transfer battle will complicate matters.

Despite Champions League finalists Juventus also being involved, the main threat for Lemar’s signature will likely come from the Premier League sides. Juve have firmly set their sights on signing Douglas Costa from Bayern Munich this summer, with the French winger being seen as a backup option.

To some extent, Liverpool’s interest may also depend on whether they land Roma winger Mohamed Salah. The Reds have had one offer of £28million rejected already but if a deal is agreed for the Egyptian international, they may also drop out of the race for Lemar.

In any case, they and Tottenham will provide stiff competition as both teams have Champions League football next season, although the reputation of Arsene Wenger among French players will hopefully offset some of that advantage.
