The San Siro outfit currently sit in sixth place in Serie A, but Mazzola, who spent his entire playing career at Inter before working as the club’s sporting director from 1995 to 1999, is confident Stefano Pioli’s side is one or two striker signings from getting back to their glory days.
Mazzola told Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (via Metro):
‘Yes, [I like Inter’s attack] because it has technical strikers with pace and quality.
‘I expected more from Gabigol, but the first season in Serie A for foreigners is complicated. We have to have patience.
‘[Antonio] Candreva and [Ivan] Perisic have quality, even if they can do more.’
‘I am crazy about Alexis Sanchez. For me, he is perfect for this team because over time he has evolved and now scores several goals a season. Inter need someone like him.’
Sanchez’s future at Arsenal is still in limbo and has yet to sign a new deal at the club, with his existing one expiring at the end of next season. Because of this, the Chile international has been linked with a move away from the Emirates with several top European clubs, including Inter, ready to pounce when the summer transfer window opens.
