Borussia Dortmund are closing in on a deal for Arsenal starlet Gedion Zelalem, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 19-year-old was proclaimed as one of Arsenal’s rising stars and one to watch out for in the future, but the young midfielder has struggled to progress towards to the first-team and had a loan spell at Rangers.

Zelalem’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and Dortmund are reportedly keen on his services.

Should the proposed move go ahead, Arsenal would only get a training compensation fee from the transfer. Dortmund are however negotiating a potential loan deal with a view to make it a permanent one.

Signed by Arsenal in 2013, Zelalem has failed to make a single Premier League appearance and has featured only four times for the Gunners, two of which came in the EFL Cup this season against both Nottingham Forest and Reading.

Arsenal fans were unhappy with the sale of Serge Gnabry to Werder Bremen last summer and could feel the same with Zelalem’s possible departure to Dortmund.
