RB Leipzig head coach Raplh Hasenhuttl has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in him becoming the next manager at the Emirates if Arsene Wenger leaves the club in the summer.

Wenger’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Sun reported on Wednesday that the Gunners had contacted Hasenhuttl about the possibility of taking over the London club. The Austrian reportedly registered an interest in the job. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the manager was asked about the story by German reporters. Hasenhuttl replied:

“I read the article, it was well researched, there was a lot in it, which is true. What can I say? I have heard of worse fates than being rumoured as the successor of the most senior coach in England.”

Hasenhuttl did however say he is happy to stay at Leipzig for the foreseeable future, suggesting that the contact with Arsenal was merely an initial inquiry about his interest in the role if the position becomes available next summer:

“We do not have to worry so much about it, I have found my happiness here.”

The Austrian coach has had an incredible start to the season leading Leipzig to the top of the Bundesliga table, unbeaten in twelve matches and three points ahead of second placed Bayern Munich.
