Arsenal are set to rival Chelsea for the potential signing of highly-rated midfielder Diego Laxalt.
According to Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea have identified the Genoa midfielder as a replacement for China-bound Oscar.
But they claim the Gunners are now also monitoring the 23-year-old, who is being touted for a move away to a bigger club.
The Uruguayan, who primarily is a left midfielder but can also play centre and higher up the flank, has started 15 Serie A games for Genoa so far this season and a further two in the Coppa Italia, scoring one goal and creating two.
Laxalt is valued at just under £5 million by Transfermarkt and with 18 months left to run on his current deal at Genoa and no indication of signing a new deal to extend his stay, Arsenal or Chelsea could sign him on the cheap come the end of the season.
