Jose Mourinho refused to go public with his thoughts on Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United striker made front and back page news following his antics off the park with England.

Pictures of the seriously under the weather 31-year-old surfaced after he joined in the celebrations of a newly wed couple at the hotel used by England the day after their 3-0 win over Scotland.

Mourinho’s favourite media partner ‘Sky Sports sources’ reported that they understood the Manchester United manager to be furious at the way the FA had allowed the incident to develop.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic suspended for tomorrow’s match with Arsenal, Rooney is likely to lead the line for the home-side with his club boss refusing to elaborate on the story from ‘Sky Sports sources’.

“Over the last two or three days, nothing happened,” Mourinho said today holding centre stage. “He trained like everybody else, he wants to play like everybody else. He is ready.

“What happened in the national team, happened in the national team. I don’t comment.

“My players when they go to the national team, they belong to the national team. What happens there for good, for bad. I don’t interfere and I don’t like to comment.”

A loss to his old rival Arsene Wenger would see Mourinho’s side slip nine points behind the Gunners with many Man U fans already wondering about what happened to the Special One that their club appointed in the summer to take over from Lois van Gaal.
