Arsenal are monitoring Olympiacos starlet Panagiotis Retsos, according to The Sun.

The 18-year-old, who can play anywhere across the back-line, was reportedly watched by Arsenal scouts during Greece Under-19s’ 2-0 win over Wales.

The versatile defender has already made the breakthrough into the first-team at the Greek club, where he is predominately used as a left-back.

Arsenal already have two experienced left-backs in Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs. But Monreal’s lack of pace this season is evident, and Arsene Wenger may decide to seek out a long-term replacement sooner rather than later.

In turn, Gibbs would no doubt slot into Monreal’s position when the Spaniard does move on in the future, and perhaps Wenger views Retsos as a young talent who could fit the bill in years to come.

Retsos’ contract at Olympiacos does not expire until 2021, but a potential move to Arsenal could be difficult for the Greek to turn down, especially when you consider the club’s development facilities.

Retsos has made nine appearances for Olympiacos so far this season.
