Riyad Mahrez has admitted that Arsenal did want to sign him over the Summer, but he was too expensive for the Gunners.

The Algerian Player of the Year from last season scored 17 goals and managed a further eleven assists last season as Leicester City won the most unlikely of Premier League titles ahead of the north London club and that form, naturally, had him linked with a move away from the Foxes.

As it turned out, of course, Mahrez never did join Arsenal and remains a Leicester player this season as they look to defend their Premier League title whilst the Gunners decided to go for Lucas Perez as an attacking option to bolster their front-line.

With the season under way now too, it does appear that Arsenal were right to not go for the Algerian. Here are three reasons why…
