Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has lavished more praise on his team following their 2-0 win over FC Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

A brace from the in-form Theo Walcott secured a comfortable victory for the North London side, which moves the English club one step closer to the knockout stages of the European competition.

Arsenal came into the game full of confidence after four consecutive Premier League victories, including a 3-0 win over cross-city rivals Chelsea at the weekend.

Wenger stated that the win over the Swiss visitors was a continuation of strong form of late but that he would have liked to have seen his side be a bit more clinical in the second half.

“I would like to congratulate my team for the quality of what they produced tonight,” he told the club’s official website.

“My only regret is that we didn’t take enough of the chances that we created. It’s a good basis to have a taste for more.

“We eased off a bit in the second half and we couldn’t score the third goal.

“We still had plenty of chances but it’s tough to maintain that pace, accuracy in the passing and speed in the game over 90 minutes. The first half was top, top quality like what we produced against Chelsea.”

Arsenal are back in domestic action as they take on newly promoted Burnley at the weekend.

Walcott’s goals are another testament to his strong start to the new season and will be another confidence boost for the flying winger.
