Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has compared Gunners young gun Alex Iwobi to former top-class midfielder Jay Jay Okocha and Edgar Davids.
The homegrown starlet has come through the ranks at the Emirates Stadium and has played a significant role in the North London outfit’s strong start to the new campaign.
Iwobi has starred on the left flank for the Gunners in recent weeks, scoring and creating goals in both the Premier League and in Europa.
The Nigeria international has struck up a clever understanding with Ozil and looks set to be an important member of Arsene Wenger’s starting XI as the club fight for major silverware this season.
The Germany international has been full of praise for his team-mate and stated that Iwobi has a unique skillset that remind him of some top-quality midfielders of yester-year.
“Alex reminds me of a mixture of him (Okocha) and Edgar Davids,” The Daily Mail quotes Ozil as saying.
“He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he’s good in front of goal too. He’s developing really well and if he continues the way he’s been playing for the whole season, he will enhance his game.”
It will be interesting to see Wenger’s team selection when Olivier Giroud is fit and available, with scope that Sanchez will return to the left flank role and leave Iwobi fighting for a starting berth.
