New Arsenal attacker Lucas Perez has admitted that he is delighted to have joined the North London club and that signing for the Gunners is a massive step in his career.

The Spanish attacker had an excellent campaign with Deportivo La Coruna last season, scoring 17 La Liga goals for the modest side and alerting visiting scouts in the process.

Arsenal fans have urged Arsene Wenger to land a new centre forward to compete with Olivier Giroud in the final third, but a number of attempts for other players have been unsuccessful this summer.

Perez has finally put pen-to-paper on his deal to move to the Emirates Stadium and will offer Wenger a different threat in the number nine role.

The former Deportivo man has admitted that he watched Arsenal play before joining them and that he is excited to get started in English football.

“I’m delighted. It’s a massive step in my career to come to a club with the history and quality that Arsenal have and be able to play in competitions like the Premier League and the Champions League,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’m very proud and happy to be here.

“The Premier League is very popular in Spain and I always try to watch matches whenever I can. Arsenal have top quality players and play some great football so they were one of the teams I watched most.”

Perez is being likened to former Arsenal target Jamie Vardy due to his pace and threat in behind opposition defences.
