Arsenal are considering a move for Barcelona’s versatile defender Jeremy Mathieu and can land the French star for €12 million (£10.4 million) according to Don Balon.
The Gunners are believed to be in pursuit of Valencia and Germany centre-half Shkodran Mustafi but the North London side are also being linked with an array of alternatives in case a deal for the former Sampdoria man falls through.
Mathieu is a France international with a wealth of experience that can play at either central defence or at full-back.
However, the veteran is believed to be down Luis Enrique’s pecking order following the summer signings of Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne.
Mathieu could provide a competent option for Arsene Wenger’s men and would not break the bank in terms of a transfer fee.
A host of other names are also being linked with the Gunners, including Southampton stalwart Jose Fonte, with a race against time for the club to land a new defender before the end of the month.
