Arsenal have approached Borussia Dortmund about the availability of Neven Subotic this summer, according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.
Arsene Wenger is thought to be keen on the idea of bolstering his defensive department this summer and has been linked with a number of defenders already.
Despite much speculation however, Arsenal have so far only managed to sign midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach for a reported £30 million.
And although Xhaka’s arrival will add depth to Arsenal’s midfield, Wenger is looking to add a new centre-back to accommodate Laurent Koscielny, with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel not viewed by some of Emirates faithful as good enough.
Many names have and will continue to be linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, but Giulianelli has recently claimed that the Gunners have expressed an interest in signing Subotic, 27, from Dortmund.
The Italian journalist tweeted:
‘Arsenal officials got in touch with Borussua Dortmund last week over Subotic. #breaking #afc #gunners’
The Serbian defender did put Premier League clubs on alert late last month after hinting he could depart Dortmund this summer, having fallen down the pecking order at the Bundesliga club.
We all know Arsenal could do with a strong centre-back coming in this summer, but would Subotic be the ideal partner for Koscielny at the Emirates?
