Arsenal have allowed misfiring forward Wellington Silva to return to Brazil, with the attacker signing for Fluminense, as reported in ESPN.

The 23-year-old was signed by the London club back in 2010 and was being tipped to have a bright future in English football.

However, Silva ended up leaving the Gunners without ever playing a first-team game, with the South American spending his time predominantly out on loan at other clubs.

These temporary spells were mostly at lower level Spanish sides but Silva also spent last season playing in The Championship for Bolton Wanderers.

The former Brazil under-21 player failed to score consistently in Spain or England and as such Arsene Wenger has ended Arsenal’s affiliation with the player – who returns to former club Fluminense.

The 23-year-old has stated that he is delighted to return to his homeland, with his time in Europe failing to deliver the heady heights expected of him.

“I am very happy. I want to thank Fluminense for this opportunity after so long to go back, I’m eager to start. I am very anxious, really it is like the first time,” he said.

“[My] Desire to return has always existed. When I learned that it was possible I was nervous for 10 days. I am very happy and I have no words to thank. Now I have to train and get on to the field as quickly as possible.”
