A step in the right direction for this Gunner

Calum Chambers is closing in on a deal to spend the entirety of next season on loan at Watford, according to reports.

The England international struggled to get games for the Gunners last season and Arsene Wenger is ready to grant him regular game time by shipping him out on loan for the season, as the 21-year-old looks to revive his career.

Although Chambers only started twice in the Premier League last season, Wenger is convinced the young defender will develop into a top class act in time. But the Frenchman cannot guarantee him regular first-team football at the Emirates next season as he looks to bring in a new centre-back in the upcoming months.

Former club Southampton are believed to be interested, but it seems Watford are frontrunners for his signature.

Watford would be a step in the right direction for Chambers to gain more experience as he probably start for the Hornets more often than not.

Southampton would also be a decent place to spend the season and get games under his belt, but the young defender would certainly see more action in a Watford shirt next season.

In any case, I’m sure many reading this would agree that Chambers’ next career step is to go out on loan and play regularly rather than warn the bench at the Emirates – especially if Arsenal bring in a defender this summer.
