I really don’t know what to make of this…

Well it wouldn’t be a transfer window without Arsenal being linked with a striker now would it?

In the past, the name that has always been linked with a move to Arsenal was Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema – but this pursuit looks to be over (thank goodness for that).

So who are Arsenal now targeting instead – Troy Deeney! Yeah, the guy that leads the line for Watford. That guy.

The Daily Star reported yesterday that Arsene Wenger is weighing up a move for the former Walsall striker, as the Frenchman looks to bolster his attacking options this month.

Apparently, Wenger is a big fan of the powerful forward, who has been in fine form for Watford so far this season, netting six goals in 11 appearances.

Watford, however, are unlikely to do any business with the Gunners concerning the 27-year-old, who only signed a five-year deal with the Hornets over the summer.

But, Wenger could well tempt Deeney and Watford with a reported £20 million in the offing.

Now when I first heard about this ‘rumour’ I actually thought to myself ‘Ok, Wenger’s having a proper laugh with us now’, but I really don’t know what to make of this if it actually proves accurate and Arsenal do, at the end, sign Deeney from Watford. Why you ask? because you can’t deny the player in question has heart and is a fighter. He is also physically very strong, good in the air, and actually very technically gifted on the ball for such a stocky player.

But is the Watford striker good enough to play for Arsenal? Many of you reading this will say no, purely for the fact that he plays for the Hornets. So let me ask you one more thing. If Deeney was at a more prestigious club (no disrespect to Watford or their fans) playing with better quality players and still doing the business, would you question the proposed move as much? I don’t think so.
