Serge GnabryArsenal have recalled Serge Gnabry from West Brom after a disappointing loan spell at the Hawthorns.

The 20-year-old German signed for the Baggies last summer on a season-long loan but only managed to play 12 minutes of Premier League football under Tony Pulis, who was left unimpressed by the winger.

Pulis admitted earlier in the season that Gnabry was not ‘at that level to play games’ and barely featured in his squad on match days.

As a result of his fruitless time at West Brom, Arsene Wenger decided to trigger the recall option in his loan deal and is currently training with the first-team.

But Wenger rate him highly and rather than remain at Arsenal, where he would more than likely play for the Under-21 team, the Frenchman believes his development would be better served by playing Championship football rather than at another Premier League club or the Reserve side.

It is now being reported that a handful of Championship sides, including Brighton, are interested in signing the Germany Under-21 international on loan this month.

It’s a real shame as Gnabry has wasted five months of his development by not playing regularly for West Brom.

Clearly, sending the German out to a Premier League club rather than a Championship side was the wrong move in the first place, and this is for Wenger to take on the chin.

Hopefully, someone will come in for him this month so that he hasn’t wasted the complete season.
