martinezAtletico Madrid will offer Arsenal the services of Jackson Martinez during the January transfer window – this according to reports in Spain.

Diego Simeone bought the Colombian striker from Porto over the summer for roughly £26.3 million, having been a striking sensation for the Portuguese club for several years.

But Simeone is understood to have lost patience with Martinez, with his lack of goals (three in 19 total appearances) being the main issue.

Atletico have played the majority of the campaign without a proven striker leading the line, and this is another reason why the club are looking to offload the 29-year-old.

Spanish publication Don Balon now suggests Simeone is ready to offer the Colombia international to likely suitors this month, including Arsenal – who were reportedly in the running for the striker’s services over the summer – with the Argentine to use funds from his potential sale to bring in Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi.

Ateltico are looking to make a loss from Martinez’s departure this month, with the club willing to accept offers in the region of £22 million.

Should Arsenal be interested?

Well, having seen Martinez performances this season and the fee in which Atletico want for his sale, Arsenal would be foolish to spend that amount of money on him. In addition, he is 29 and would severely struggle to adapt to the Premier League if he is doing so in La Liga.

And for £13.4 million we could buy Nolito, so why bother spending a further £9 mil on Martinez?
