Would it be £25M well spent by Arsenal?

Arsenal have joined the race to sign Riyad Mahrez, according to the Daily Mail.

The Algeria international has been in superb form for table-toppers Leicester City this season, netting 14 goals and creating seven, and has not surprisingly been linked with a big-money move away from the Foxes – with Manchester United and Spurs reportedly showing an interest in the winger.

However, Marhez has already indicated several times that he will see out the season with Leicester, which has been re-affirmed by his agent Kamel Bengougam.

Leicester bought the skilful Algerian from Le Havre for a mere £400,000 over a year ago, but his value has since rocketed to a reported £25 million because of his fine displays.

Arsenal have now registered their interest in Mahrez, and if manages to keep up his form and continue to impress then there will undoubtedly be another few clubs looking at him as well.

Understandably, Claudio Ranieri is keen to keep hold of their star man, noting in a press conference last week that the club plan to offer fresh terms to the player at the end of the season and, until then, the Italian expects him to honour his current deal which runs out in summer 2019.

Although Ranieri expects Marhez to honour his contract, the former Chelsea boss knows, deep down, that the lure of the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United (sorry Spurs) would be too hard for him to turn down.

So with a move for Mahrez this January out of the question, would Arsenal be wise to re-ignite their interest in him at the end of the season?

In addition, would he be £25 million well spent?
