Mathieu DebuchyFrance coach Didier Deschamps has told Mathieu Debuchy to regain his starting role in Arsene Wenger’s side or quit Arsenal in January if he wants to win a place at Euro 2016 next summer.

The 30-year-old right-back moved to Arsenal in summer 2014 from Newcastle but lost his place in the starting line-up after the emergence of Hector Bellerin last season, while long-term injuries in the past year haven’t helped his cause.

Debuchy has made five appearances for Arsenal so far this season and in his last two games have seen Arsenal thrashed by Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup and last night at Bayern 5-1.

The £12 million signing is has quickly become second-choice right-back behind Bellerin and Deschamps believes unless the France international can play more regularly then he may have to consider a move away from the Emirates this January:

‘Debuchy is in a position where he is playing very little, when he does play, look at yesterday’s result.

‘He has a decision to make in December or January. He hasn’t lost his quality, he’s playing very little.’

It doesn’t look likely that Debuchy will regain his starting position in Wenger’s side as Bellerin is favoured by that of both the manager and pretty much the whole of the Emirates faithful as well.

Unless Bellerin incurs a long-term injury in the upcoming month (fingers crossed it won’t happen) then the French defender will remain on the bench.

As Dechhamps mentioned, Debuchy will have a massive decision to make and if things remain the way they are for the former Newcastle man then he will have to look elsewhere for regular football if he wants to play for his country in Euro 2016 next summer.

Debuchy has only shown one thing this Season. That, like most of the “second-string” back-up at Arsenal…he simply isn’t good enough. His defending, with the exception of one tackle, yesterday, has been nothing short of disasterous. He looks completely disinterested and certaiy doesn’t seem capable of rising to the occasion. This is unforgivable.Never mind the fact that Deschamps believes that he needs to gain his first team spot…Thank Goodness for the emergence of Bellerin!!…Sell Debuchy and bring in another player who’s capable of defending…and whilst he’s looking for another back-up right back Wenger should also be considering that Gibbs still has no idea how to defend either!!

i agree Debuchy was well of the pace and despite that last ditch tackle on robben didnt do much he lacks pace and fitness he will always play 2nd best to bellerin, .so wenger should sell him in january and like any other second string player will only play if bellerin is injury
he needs to bolster up his defence with a quality right back, defensive midfielder and a playmaker and forward.

I think Wenger should rotate a little bit more to give these players more playing time. No matter how good a player is, he soon begins to lose form and confidence the longer he stays off the pitch. No point having players and not using them
